Andru Edwards: Saving the day with satellite view

September 27th, 2007

I love how smartphones are so versatile. I was walking around campus the other day, playing with the Google Maps application. You know, pulling up maps of where I was walking, checking out the surrounding area, stuff like that. I heard a car pull up next to me, and these two girls ask me where the baseball field is. Not being too familiar with the layout of the campus, I almost turned them away with a regretful shake of the head. But of course the tech guy in me figures it out. Swapping to satellite view, I quickly locate the baseball fields and do some quick spatial thinking. “Keep going straight, you should be able to turn left into a parking lot when you see the field.” I like to think I saved the day for those girls.
